What Can You Rent for $1,500/Mo These Days?

If you’ve been renting or researching the rental Market in the Seattle area lately, you know that the cost of rent has continued to rise in recent months with inventory low and and high demand. But how do we compare the cost of rent to the rest of the US? Our friends at Zillow have sorted through rentals across the States, and compiled a list of what a typical rental, from single family homes to high rise apartment units will look like if your budget falls in the $1,500/Month price range.

In Miami FL,  for $1,495 residents can reside in a 3 bed, 3 bath 1,412 sf condo with lake views, and of course a sun deck to enjoy that Florida sunshine. In Las Vegas, one can rent a 2 bed 2 bath penthouse in a resort style apartment complex. Features include a large master, granite counter tops, and amenities such as a workout facility and pool and spa. over here in the Pacific Northwest, the Zillow folks have chosen a  2 bed 2 bath 727 sf West Seattle rental listed for $1,450 a month, with hardwood flooring, stainless steel appliances, and laundry facility in unit. This unit also has a built in sound system. How do you feel Seattle stacks up among other metro neighborhoods?

4724 California Ave Design Reivew Meeting This Week

Although development has been slowing down rapidly over the past two years, we are starting to see projects pick up in various areas, such as West Seattle, and North Seattle neighborhoods like Ballard and Fremont. Plans for the 4724 California Ave project in West Seattle are still underway, and a Southwest Design Review Board meeting will be held this Thursday night at 6:30PM at the Youngstown Cultural Arts Center. This is the first public design meeting for the roughly 100unit building with retail space on the ground floor in the junction at the old Petco site. For more information on this project status, or other developments in the neighborhood, please visit the Department of Planning and Development.

Rapid Ride Construction Continues

Construction on the Rapid Ride Route 120 in West Seattle continues this week, steadying the process for the bus service that is scheduled to start this upcoming fall. While construction crews have eased away from the east side of SW Alaska st, they have migrated to the other side of the street, and are tearing up the concrete on the west side near Key Bank. The North entrance to that alleyway into the back parking lot is blocked, which many locals use frequently while shopping or eating out, but the lot is still open during construction.

Today is also the scheduled Metro meeting for route 120, open to the public from 5:30-7:30pm at Youngstown Cultural Arts Center. Get all of your questions and concerns addressed tonight.

New in West Seattle

Harbor Properties is reportedly moving forward with two residential projects that had been previously  on hiatus.  The projects will be affordable housing complexes, the Link apartments on 38th Ave. SW. and and another yet-to-be-named project at 36th Avenue and Snoqualmie Street.  The Link building will have 195 units, a rooftop P-Patch and possibly, a yoga studio.  The complex is scheduled to open in early April.  The latter project will have 63 units which they expect to begin construction on by the end of the year.   The two West Seattle apartment buildings will have a combined price tag of approximately $54 million.
